A cow pasture made way for Maplewood Elementary School in 1951 to serve the growing population of families in the area. The original building housed five classrooms and a lunch room, which doubled as a classroom.  Doors opened Fall, 1952.

Maplewood in 1950 and today:

Maplewood now has a student population of over 400 students in grades Pre-Kindergarten through 6th Grade.  The school mascot is the Mustang, and the school colors are red and blue.  The school motto is, "Increase the Peace."

The school grounds are dotted with portable classroom buildings, class gardens, and historic trees.  Afterschool programs are provided by Extend-a-Care, and Creative Action, as well as many afterschool classes provided free of charge by Maplewood teachers.  Maplewood is also the home of the annual Cherrywood Art Fair held the first weekend in December.
